Question RE and Simply Accounting

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd make a copy here of a post from the blackbaud forum in hopes I might get a response.

We are trying to streamline our banking process and would like RE to talk to Simply Accounting, even if just through a csv file. It seems, however, that Simply Accounting will only import miscellaneous transactions to the general journal. I was wondering if anyone is using RE with Simply Accounting and how they are doing it.

Also, I was wondering generally what procedures people use when posting to the GL in RE and using that with a third party accounting software.

Update:

I've learned that Simply Accounting will only import txt files and I can't see any way to quickly convert RE exports into the precise format required by SA (RE exports txt files tab seperated and SA only imports comma seperated). Currently our accountant does not enter any of our gift details, just the fund total from each deposit (done manually - we print a word doc with the fund and amount breakdown from each bank deposit - 95% of our gifts are cheques).

I've only been using RE for 2.5 months but my manager would really like to use it to prepare our batches for deposit and I am at a total loss as to what this would entail so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Feel free to e-mail me at ecunningham@alzheimerniagara.ca if you think you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks to anyone who has any insight on this!!
Erin

comma-seperated files(CSV) are text files. We are just used to viewing them in Excel.

rename it from file.csv to file.txt and you should be good

Thanks....that's really handy to know! I don't suppose there's any way to automatically add quotes around some things? SA requires the precise formula below in order to import transactions:

DATE,"Reference","Comment"
Debit Account,Amount
Credit Account,-Amount
Then Repeat for every transaction.

I can't see any way to easily import/export between these two programs. Should I even bother?
