So a couple of issues for the conference. We have already briefly discussed the thought of having a flag/pin/widget of some sort to attach to our name badges. This would identify us to each other and the world that we are members of the RE Users Forum. We never really settled on anyhting.
Second - how do we advertise the forum while we are there? Some thoughts...
computers - BB has computers set up for peopel to check their email and such during the confernce. At every opportunity change the home page of Internet Explorer on these computers to the forum
flyers - make up a bunch of 4.25" X 5.5" info sheets to hand out and leave on tables, seats, etc...
sandwich boards - I nominate Denise to wear a sandwich board and carry a big bell
Any other thoughts?

Another idea-
They have little ribbons that you can purchase that say whatever you want that will stick to the bottom of your name badge. They are about $.60 a badge. http://www.successfulevents.org/Ribb...FromPackView/0
Or how about name badge layards?

lanyards would be cool, but they run about $2-3 each depending on quanity ordered. To get them at $2 from one place I'd need to order 100... Might be worth it if I was confident we'd keep the name for that long, but who knows.
Ribbons would be a good fallback, but I would hope we can come up with something more creative and flashy than that.

There's an idea!! Okay, so it would be more expensive than the lanyards, but we could get something made up that had LED lights flashing on and off. HP had something like that at the SQL 2005 launch. That would be .

Everybody loves these fantastically blinking LED lights with a very strong magnet on the back. Put the powerful mini magnet behind your ear or behind your shirt and let the magnetism flow between. Tons of uses, lots of colors. Individually packaged. Batteries included.
50 pieces $1.45 ea
100 pieces $1.40 ea

Can we get them in 3 weeks? flashingblinkylights.com seems to be the best place. They even have cheap lanyards we can get to go with them
I need someone with a US address to be willing to get them shipped there, then bring them to the conference. Shipping them to Canada only to take them back into the US would be silly.

You can ship them to my address since I am already here. Then I can meet up with everyone sometime Sunday to give them out. I will be having my youngest daughter with me so I will not be able to attend the meeting.

I love the flasgy thingys but will they be self explanatory so people know why we are wearing them? I can make buttons here and they could simply say RE User Forum.

Nope they won't be and that is the best part! It will force people to be curious and ask what they are about!
It will be important to pair the flashy things up with flyers that mention the forum and refer to the flashy things. Anyone who signs up as a forum member during teh conference will of course get a flashy thing!

OK I just ordered 50 of these guys along with some lanyards to hold them.
They are going to be shipped to Eugene, and between he and I we will make sure every forum member who attends the conference gets one. The next step will be to develop marketing materials (flyers, etc) that will tie into the blinkers and encourage more mebers to sign up at the forum. Not only sign up but post actively!
The cost came to US$76. I am going to stick to voluntary donations to help cover the cost for existing forum members. Your support is appreciated
