I have used both (D2 for 6 years and RE for 3 years) and they both have their benefits.

IMO The ability to run reports and queries in RE FAR exceeds the ability and steep learning curve of D2. The area which D2 exceeds RE is in the handling of Honor/Memorials.

Having trained computer illiterate staffs to use both systems, the staff for RE picked up the information much easier. When I first began to use D2 I thought the Canned Executive Summaries would increase managment and non-data staff to use the system, however it didn't materialize.
