The Blackbaud User Society Marketplace is a new initiative between the Blackbus and the world of 3rd party consultants that work with Blackbaud products. Many people don't know that they have options to the Blackbaud customizations team and the Blackbaud consulting team. There are a myriad of individuals and large firms who specialize in helping orgs work better with their Blackbaud software.
The Marketplace will feature consultants who agree to participate in the program. They will receive a booth in the marketplace that will allow them to show off their wares and answer questions that you might have about them. These vendors will also have the opportunity to provide articles that will go up on the front page that highlight ideas or solutions they have to problems they've encountered with their clients.
For the intital rollout we have worked with four initial participants with more to follow as word gets out:This is a trial project and we are very interested to hear what you think about it. Once upon a time we had a consultants forum, but it never had a clear vision of what it wanted to be, so it was removed. The Marketplace has a very specific goal in mind - to match vendors and clients together in a win-win scenario for both. Here you can ask any questions you want, and learn what others have to say about the vendors.
Do you know any vendors you think should participate? Let us know! |

Yesterday Blackbaud announced the much anticipated release of NetCommunity v5.5. This is one of the bigger releases of NetCommunity in the product's history. According to the Blackbaud press release some of the new features include;- Content Approval – allowing workflow approval processes for content publishing and versioning
- eCards – allowing website visitors to send electronic cards for free or for a donation
- Improved site design features – including an improved site designer, multiple image uploads, enhanced document management, and a Mozilla Firefox® accessible admin site
- Web Accessibility – support for WAI (Level A and AA) and Section 508 compliancy on various website components
- eReceipts – extended support for online gift receipts
- Page sharing – allowing users to submit NetCommunity pages to social bookmarking sites such as Facebook, Del.icio.us, Newsvine®, etc.
There are also extensive enhancements to the API as Michael Andrews mentioned in this Blackbaud Labs post. Steve MacLaughlin has also posted some more information on v5.5 in his latest blog post. |

Slow news day. I'm looking at a new tool for the front page of the site that will allow us to streamline the number of different software tools we use from 3 to 2 as well as enhancing what peopel will see when they first visit the site. The tool is an extension of the vBulletin software that powers the forums, and it uses module blocks to display different pieces of data aobut the forum. Some include:- event calendar
- latest news
- latest poll
- site statistics
- Today's birthdays
There are many mroe available and we can make it do just about anyhting we want without over-complicating the site. The potential downside is readability and layout with the amount of real-estate space available. With the narrow site design I went with it gets kind of squishy with 2 columns and unreadable with 3 columns of these module blocks.
Have a peek and let me know what you think. Blackbaud User Society - Home |

Nothing like a Monday morning update about updates. Ahh... kind of like a meeting about meetings, and we all LOVE meetings right?
Well I thought I was being all clever with the promotion of the donation and subscription systems only to find that a whole bunch of transactions were being rejected. Thanks to Matthew Whitenack for working with me to get to the bottom of the problem.
Here's the latest:- The donation system has been tweaked a bit and should be working better. If you tried to donate but were unsuccessful in getting your donation confirmed by PayPal you can try again or contact me directly. At least one person has donated this morning and it appears to be working better.
- The subscription service to get rid of the banner ads has been tweaked a bit and should be working better. At least one person has used it successfully this morning already!
On Friday afternoon I sent out an email to most users asking for help with some projects I have going on with the site. Thanks to all those who replied and I've set up places for us to collaborate on getting that work done. - Documentation Library - a place to store searchable versions of policies, procedures, training manuals - you name it. Any document you'd like to share with the world
- Ideas Inventory Integration - The Ideas section of the site keeps breaking. I want to get it upgraded to the latest available version and integrated properly with the rest of the site.
- Conference wrangling - This still has to be crystalized a bit but feel free to start discussion about what Blackbus gatherings, tasks, or other things we'd like to do while we are all assembled in Charleston in November.
Thanks again to everyonewho has volunteered to step up. The more the merrier!
